Play Dough

The benefits of play dough are endless ... squishing, rolling and flattening all help to strengthen little hands, hand eye co ordination is practised and creativity as well as open ended play is abundant.

This is a recipe for no cook play dough with citrus fragrance and natural colouring that smells and looks good enough to eat !

What you will need;

For each portion: 1/2 cup plain flour, 1/4 cup table salt, 1/4 cup cold water, 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil, 1 tbsp of freshly squeezed citrus juice (lemon - lime - orange), 1 tbsp of finely grated citrus peel (lemon - lime - orange), natural food colouring.

Utensils: Mixing bowl, measuring cups and spoons, grater, storage jars.

Place all ingredients in a mixing bowl

Add a few drops of food colouring to the water to achieve your desired colour, I have used the Queen range of natural extracts, they are not as bright as the standard range but I prefer the more natural pastel look that they produce (as with all food colouring be careful of staining on your work surfaces and utensils).

Mix all ingredients together and work into a dough ball - add a little extra water or flour if needed.

All done and ready to play !

I also purchased some handy little storage jars to keep them airtight when not in use.
